Astana became Kazakhstan’s new capital in 1997. Since that time, it is one of the fastest developing cities in the world with many new residential, social, cultural and administrative complexes constructed every year. The success of the young capital is inspired by President Nursultan Nazarbayev — the author of the capital relocation and its main creator. Many projects were a realization of his creative vision.
Situated right in the centre of the Eurasian continent, Astana is a unique bridge between Asia and Europe, successfully comprising in itself the interaction of the two world’s cultures. A uniquely designed city with a highly developed infrastructure built within the recent years, Astana has become a symbol of new Kazakhstan – vigorous, dynamic, prosperous and aspired to the future.
In 1999 UNESCO awarded Astana the City for Peace Prize.
