Astana… Tsesnabank’s Home City

Astana became Kazakhstan’s new capital in 1997. Since that time, it is one of the fastest developing cities in the world with many new residential, social, cultural and administrative complexes constructed every year. The success of the young capital is inspired by President Nursultan Nazarbayev — the author of the capital relocation and its main creator. Many projects were a realization of his creative vision.

Situated right in the centre of the Eurasian continent, Astana is a unique bridge between Asia and Europe, successfully comprising in itself the interaction of the two world’s cultures. A uniquely designed city with a highly developed infrastructure built within the recent years, Astana has become a symbol of new Kazakhstan – vigorous, dynamic, prosperous and aspired to the future.

In 1999 UNESCO awarded Astana the City for Peace Prize.

Astana’s rapid development can be illustrated with the following trends:

  • Astana is the fastest growing and 2nd largest city in Kazakhstan with a high percentage of young population. Since 1997, the population officially increased 4 times from 250, 000 to 1 million
  • The capital’s economy mainly rests on construction and small & medium-size businesses, with well-developed trade and services sectors
  • Astana’s gross regional product accounts for 11% of the country’s GDP
  • Astana is the country’s largest construction site
  • All major national companies and monopolies are headquartered in Astana
  • The Government implements large-scale investment programs for Astana development
  • Astana is a host of EXPO 2017
